Alistair Jepson

Alistair qualified from the University of Birmingham in 1994. He undertook his postgraduate surgical training in London, with basic surgical training at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, and his specialist orthopaedic training in the North West London region, including posts at St. Mary’s and Chelsea & Westminster Hospitals.

Having established an interest in upper limb surgery he then spent a year on fellowship in Brisbane, Australia. This position was based within one of Queensland’s largest tertiary referral hospitals, the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Whilst in Australia he was offered a consultant job back in the UK, but before commencing this he undertook a further fellowship, in hand surgery, at the prestigious Pulvertaft Hand Unit in Derby.

He started his current position as consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Northampton General Hospital in November 2005, and whilst he undertakes general trauma on-call work, his prime interest continues to be the upper limb. Within this area he undertakes arthroscopic surgery (on the shoulder, elbow and wrist), including arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, arthroscopic stabilisations for shoulder instability, joint replacement for arthritis, and fracture fixation – both open and minimally invasive.

Alistair takes an active role in teaching of both medical students and trainee surgeons.
